Knowledge Exchange and Innovation Clause Samples

The Knowledge Exchange and Innovation clause establishes a framework for parties to share information, expertise, and new ideas developed during their collaboration. Typically, this clause outlines the types of knowledge or innovations that can be exchanged, the methods for sharing them, and any limitations or protections regarding confidential or proprietary information. Its core function is to facilitate the free flow of valuable insights and foster collaborative development, while also addressing concerns about intellectual property and competitive advantage.

Knowledge Exchange and Innovation. University Innovation Fund (UIF) Plan The SRUC UIF plan for 2021/22 is focused on supporting stakeholders through a post COVID-19 and green recovery in the natural economy. The transition to net-zero and improved sustainability targets in agriculture create opportunities and challenges and we have prioritised in our UIF plan for this year activities which accelerate SRUC innovations relating to digitisation and new technologies associated with novel, efficient and sustainable production systems. Reflecting the increased importance of vertical farming and local production in good food strategies, we have increased our engagement plans with local communities. We have included within our UIF plan projects that aim to enhance the entrepreneurial opportunities available to students and we ensure that all projects are inclusive and address equality, diversity and inclusion issues. The current UIF outcomes will continue to set the framework for UIF projects at SRUC and we will continue to engage in the Universities Scotland’s Research and Commercialisation Directors Group and with the UIF Collaboration Manager to develop our KE strategy and innovation strategy. Projects and activities funded through our UIF Platform Grant will continue to be match funded by SRUC. In addition, where appropriate, we always try to partner with stakeholders such as levy boards, other HEIs, companies and others to add value to activities.

Knowledge Exchange and Innovation. ‌ Our Knowledge Exchange (KE) and innovation activities for the year prioritise the key challenges facing the natural economy, helping the businesses with which we engage to work more sustainably and more profitably to overcome COVID challenges and meet net zero and environmental targets. Our KE and Innovation activities for this year support outreach to the industries most impacted by COVID. We are retaining a focus on virtual events and on-line resources for the year, although our consultants are able to continue to support individual business through essential farm business visits during periods of tighter COVID restrictions (Section 11). In planning KE methods for this year we have moved away from large events and prioritised small groups, retaining the flexibility to run KE activities with small groups in physical or virtual formats as local rules through the year allow. A move to digital delivery methods brings advantages compared to physical events in making KE and Innovation activities more accessible to some audience sectors such as those in remote rural areas. It also facilitates the inclusion of students in innovative KE activities, with the easier inclusion in teaching programmes of live and recorded content, and students are now better able to attend industry facing seminars and evening meetings. Delivery methods accessible to students include workshops, farmer discussion groups and virtual tours of farms and trial sites. We recognise however that digital delivery does not suit all stakeholders and we have invested in additional staff resource to drive equality, diversity and inclusivity in our KE and impact delivery. Food and drink businesses are having to adapt rapidly to COVID challenges, and our new product development team are working on innovations in new food and drink products and novel production systems, including vertical farming and aquaponics.
