The Classification Structures clause defines how items, data, or information are organized and categorized within the context of the agreement. It typically outlines the system or criteria used to group products, services, or information, such as by type, function, or compliance level, ensuring that all parties use a consistent framework for reference. Classification Structures. 5.8.1 A description of the classifications and the classification process for employees are outlined in the relevant schedules as follows: School Officers Schedules 8 and 9 (Refer clauses 5.9 and 5.10) Nurses 12 Services Staff 13 Boarding Supervisors 14 Children Services 15
5.8.2 An employee may request a reclassification of their position in relation to either the classification level of an existing position or where the classification level of the position has been changed (the request).
5.8.3 Except in exceptional circumstances no employee can request a reclassification of their position on more than one occasion in a twelve (12) month period.
5.8.4 The employee must make the request in writing to the employer, which will contain the following:
(a) A description of the work performed by the employee;
(b) The employee’s assessment as to whether their position description is accurate and any substantiating reasons for that assessment;
(c) Information comparing the work performed and the characteristics, skills and duties, and criteria prescribed by this Agreement for the respective levels; and
(d) The identity of persons who support the subject employee’s application for review;
(e) Other material as appropriate.
5.8.5 An employee may be assisted and/or represented in preparing and submitting the material identified in subclause 4 and in any discussion with the employer related to the request.
5.8.6 The employer will:
(a) consider the information provided in the request; and
(b) notify the employee in writing of the decision regarding the request:
(i) within sixty (60) calendar days of receiving the request; or
(ii) by the last day in February of the following year of a request received in December.
5.8.7 A classification review may be the subject of clause 2.4 (Procedures for Preventing and Settling Disputes) of this Agreement.
Classification Structures. The work undertaken by employees will be classified in accordance with the relevant classification structure for the work performed as described in the following schedules— • Schedule 4 - Sugar Milling Operations Employees • Schedule 5A - Refinery Operations Employees • Schedule 6 - Electrical/Electronic Engineering Employees • Schedule 7 – Fabrication and Mechanical Engineering Employees • Schedule 8 - Clerical Employees • Schedule 9 - Regional Classification Structure for employees covered by Schedule 4 and Schedule 6

13.2 Employees will be required to carry out such duties as are within the limits of the Employee's skill, competence and training, including work that is incidental or peripheral to the Employee's main function.

Classification Structures. 26.1.1 There are two (2) defined career path structures, with appropriate classification structures, that operate within the Company; • the Locomotive Operations Stream; and, • the Terminal Operations Stream.

14.3 The Company will not leave a permanent position at a higher classification unfilled for the purposes of utilising Employees to act in a higher classification and avoid making the permanent appointment. However, appointment to a higher classification under this Agreement is at the Company’s discretion. Employees wishing to advance to higher classifications will be encouraged and supported to do so as appropriate, however progression is dependent on a range of factors including but not limited to the availability of such positions and demonstration of satisfactory competency and skill levels for appointment.
14.4 The Company has a commitment to developing a multi skilled workforce. Specifically, this will include an LRV Operator performing other functions, such as a Customer Service Officer. Whilst engaged on such alternate duties, the Employee will maintain payment as per the relevant LRV Operator classification. This will provide the Company with the required flexibility and provide Employees with diverse skills and experience. Similarly, a Customer Service Officer may be required to perform LRV Operator duties from time to time and will be paid at the relevant LRV Operator classification for time worked in such capacity.
14.5 Acting in a Higher Grade:
14.5.1 An Employee appointed by the Company for more than two (2) hours on any day or shift, to duties carrying a higher rate than their usual classification, shall be paid the higher rate for the entire day or shift, provided that such time is not part of on the job training under the direct supervision of another Employee.
14.5.2 An Employee appointed by the Company for two (2) hours or less on any day or shift to duties carrying a higher rate than their ordinary classification shall be paid the higher rate for the time worked.

Classification Structures. 55.2.1 The classification structure contained in Schedule 2 is based on performance, competency development and progression.
55.2.2 Each of the classifications may have multiple skill levels, which recognises and defines the relevant experience, qualifications and rates of pay as outlined in Schedule 1.
55.2.3 For the purpose of progression to the next classification level, and subsequent payment of increment increases outlined in Clause 62, performance assessments are to be completed by the Workshop Supervisor/Manager prior to each Employee’s anniversary of appointment to their current position. Employees will be required to demonstrate competency at the next increment level as outlined in Clause 64 prior to being appointed to the next available level within the relevant competency structure, up to the maximum level within the applicable position.
55.2.4 The parties may vary the competency mix to give effect to improvements made by any relevant training authority and/or to satisfy changes to operational needs.
55.2.5 All Employees will be required to perform the duties within their appropriate classification when called upon to do so by the Employer.
55.2.6 If, during the life of this Agreement, the Employer determines that there has been a substantial increase in the overall complexity and range of specialised skills in the competency structure that justifies a higher pay level, the Employer may, in consultation with Employees review and amend Schedule 3 to move Employees within the classification stream to a higher pay level.
