Summer Assignments Clause Samples
The "Summer Assignments" clause outlines the requirements and expectations for work or tasks that must be completed during the summer period, typically outside the standard academic or contractual year. This clause may specify the nature of the assignments, deadlines for completion, and any reporting or submission procedures. Its core function is to ensure that necessary work continues during the summer break, maintaining progress and accountability even when regular schedules are paused.
Summer Assignments. Employees who worked less than a 12-month schedule at the 10 time of their work-related accident will not be guaranteed summer employment while 11 participating in the Alternate Duty Program.
Summer Assignments. 1. General: Summer teaching assignments within a department shall generally be offered on a rotating basis so that all full-time members of the department shall have summer teaching opportunities equally without preference as to rank, contract type, tenure status, and years of service subject to the need of the department for teaching. If an individual’s assigned course does not meet the required minimum enrollment and the course is not taught as a result, the individual will be considered as having received a summer teaching opportunity. An individual may not teach in the summer as a substitute for teaching in one or more semesters of the regular academic year.
2. Summer teaching assignments shall be offered to full-time faculty over part-time faculty.
3. Written notice of assignment to summer teaching will be sent to the faculty on or about March 1 of each year. If the faculty member plans to accept the assignment, they shall notify the Administration within two (2) weeks after receipt of the notice of assignment. No courses shall be cancelled due to low enrollment unless the faculty member of record, in consultation with the Chair, determines that they do not wish to teach it within two (2) weeks after receipt of the notice of assignment. In such a case, the Chair may offer the course to another qualified full- time faculty member. If no other full-time faculty members elect to teach the course, the Chair may teach it. If the Chair does not elect to teach the course, they may offer the course to a qualified part-time faculty member. If no one elects to teach the course, it shall be cancelled.
4. Effective Summer 2021, each bargaining unit faculty shall be compensated for summer teaching as follows:
a. Faculty teaching undergraduate courses with enrollment of 15 or more as of 6:00 a.m. on the first day of the class shall receive $2,250 per teaching hour.
b. Faculty teaching undergraduate courses with enrollment of 11 through 14 as of 6:00 a.m. on the first day of the class shall be paid $1,900 per teaching hour.
c. Undergraduate courses with enrollment of 7, 8, 9 or 10 students as of 6:00 a.m. on the first day of the class shall receive $1550 per teaching hour.
d. Undergraduate courses with enrollment of 6 or fewer as of 6:00 a.m. on the first day of the class shall be compensated by the formula (SCH/15) multiplied by $1550.

Summer Assignments. When work normally and customarily performed by employees is available to be performed at times other than during the regular September – June academic year, the work shall be offered to employees in the appropriate classification(s) as provided in this Section.
6.18.1 Assignment of employees not regularly so assigned to serve during a summer recess period shall be made in order of seniority in classification.
6.18.2 An employee who accepts a summer assignment in accordance with the provisions of this Section shall receive, on a pro-rate basis, not less than the compensation and benefits applicable to that classification during the regular academic year, and in no event shall his/her compensation and benefits be less on a pro-rata basis, than the compensation and benefits he/she was receiving immediately prior to the commencement of the summer assignment. No pro-rating of compensation and benefits shall be applied on any basis other than on the relationship which the number of hours assigned to the employee during the regular September – June academic year. No employee shall be required to accept a summer assignment that is not so regularly assigned.
Summer Assignments. Summer assignments will be eligible for classified bargaining unit employees who meet training/knowledge/physical requirements of the job they are applying for and offered by the District prior to the beginning of the Summer Assignment. Summer assignments will be offered to all eligible permanent classified employees based on the following criteria: ● Same job family: eligible outside classifications can be considered for a position if job specific professional development is agreed to by the candidate or if the training has already been completed prior to summer assignment. * ● Unit members who apply for a position outside of their classification may be required to interview if more candidates apply for a position than available positions. ● Prior attendance and job performance, as documented on performance evaluation and/or disciplinary documentation. ● Seniority with a rotational schedule ● A representative from human resources and from CSEA will review applicant materials prior to placement in positions. *Professional development must be completed prior to starting the Summer Assignments. The District will offer the professional development to those selected for a summer assignment on a non-student day/after student dismissal or at the end of the school year prior to the Summer Assignment starting.
Summer Assignments. When work normally and customarily performed by Bargaining Unit employees is required to be performed at times other than during the regular September-June academic year, the District will fill positions consistent with Education Code Section 88001.
10.7.1 No classified employee whose regular yearly assignment for service excludes all, or any part of, the period between the end of the academic year in June and the beginning of the next academic year in September, shall be required to perform services during such period.
10.7.2 If more than one (1) unit member wishes to be assigned to a position which is vacant during the summer, the District will consider the following in selecting Unit Members for the position:

Summer Assignments. 9.18.1 All employees who are not assigned during the summer vacations shall be considered for temporary summer work if they indicate their interest by applying for such work by May 1, or by responding to specific notices of posted summer vacancies. Only in-District employees will be employed unless an outside applicant has needed skill(s) which no in-District applicant possesses.
Summer Assignments. Para educators shall normally be assigned to work during the regular school year. Summer school assignments are at the discretion of the Board.
Summer Assignments. The District shall establish all summer assignments by a date which will enable bus drivers to bid for assignments prior to the traditional summer break. The District shall post these assignments for a minimum of five (5) work days. Drivers that bid on a summer school route or other transportation assignments must be able to drive or work that route or assignment the entire duration of summer school unless extenuating circumstances occur. In unusual circumstances or if unavailable to attend this meeting, the driver may indicate a designee to make this selection for him or her. In the absence of a designee, the selection may be made by the appropriate association representative.
Summer Assignments. Students with Annual or Summer Only contracts may be re-assigned depending on the need for space for summer conference groups and special summer contracts.
Summer Assignments. A. In the event the EMPLOYER desires the services of employees during the summer, appointments will be made on the basis classification seniority, provided the employee has the present ability and physical fitness to perform the work.
B. If an employee with greater classification seniority is passed over and the work given to a less senior employee, the Safety and Security director shall, upon written request, shall provide the passed-over employee and the Union with a written explanation stating the reasons for the decision.
C. Employees who desire to work during the summer period when school is not in regular session should advise the SUPERINTENDENT's designee of such desire, in writing, prior to May 1st. The EMPLOYER will advise the UNION of the individuals who will be offered summer assignments and the location of such assignments as soon as such assignments are made.
D. Employees performing temporary summer assignments shall not accrue sick leave, nor be eligible for sick leave usage while performing temporary summer assignments.
