Postings and Appointments. Information pertaining to the performance of these duties by non-bargaining unit members will be provided to the Faculty Association each semester as per 12 – Contracting Out. The Parties intend to continue discussing this issue during the life of the Collective Agreement as additional information is gathered.
Postings and Appointments. 13.01 A qualified full-time graduate student may be offered a teaching assistantship at the time of their admission to their 1st year of study. (a) Every regular full-time graduate student in the Doctoral program who has been employed as a teaching assistant (or research assistant in lieu thereof) during a part of the 1st year of study in that program will be re-employed as an assistant during a part of each of the 3 succeeding years of study subject to their maintaining regular full-time graduate status and to their ability to perform the work. Similarly, students first employed as an assistant in the 2nd year of their program will be re-employed during a part of each of the 2 succeeding years of study subject to their maintaining regular full-time graduate status and to their ability to perform the work, and students first employed in the 3rd year of their program will be re-employed during a part of the 1 succeeding year of study, subject to their maintaining regular full-time graduate status and to their ability to perform the work. (b) Students may defer up to 1 term of their guarantee, subject to approval from their Department. Such approval shall not be unreasonably denied. Students who exercise this right will have their guarantee period extended by 1 term. The Employee’s refusal to work in more than 2 separate academic courses per academic term will not constitute a refusal of their guarantee. (d) Every regular full-time student, in a Master's program, which is greater than 1 year's approved duration, who has been employed as a Teaching Assistant (or research assistant in lieu thereof) during a part of the 1st year of study in that program, will be re-employed as an assistant during a part of the 1 succeeding year of study, subject to their maintaining regular full-time graduate status and to their ability to perform the work. (e) Teaching assistantship vacancies in each Department (or program) may be offered to qualified 5th or 6th year full time Doctoral students who are registered within that same Department (or program). Postings and Appointments. 19.01 Subject to Clause 19.06, all vacant permanent and Term-Certain positions in the Union shall be posted for a period of at least five (5) working days, unless the College and the Union mutually agree to waive this requirement. 19.02 The Union Representative shall be copied on all Union postings as the positions are posted. The College will provide AUPE with electronic reports that include the same information as provided in letters of employment and Term-Certain or casual extensions on a monthly basis. 19.03 Should the College decide not to fill a posted position, the internal applicants shall be notified. The Union Representative shall be informed of the reasons, in writing, within ten (10) working days of the decision not to fill the position. 19.04 When an Employee is the successful applicant for a position at the same level in the Union, they shall be placed at a Step which gives them at least the same salary. 19.05 When an Employee is the successful applicant for a position at a higher level in the Union, the Employee shall be placed at a Step which gives the Employee at least a four percent (4%) salary increase in annual salary compared with their current salary inclusive of in-year step increases. 19.06 A Permanent Employee from within or outside the bargaining unit who applies for and is awarded a Term-Certain or Casual position shall maintain their permanent status and entitlements for benefits should eligibility criteria as provided in Article 39.03 continue to be met. Entitlements, including eligibility for professional development will be based upon their permanent position for the duration of the Term-Certain or Casual assignment. The Employee shall revert to their previous permanent position once the Term-Certain or Casual position ends.
Postings and Appointments. General The University shall decide the qualifications required for each position where the University is considering appointing a Sessional Lecturer. The University may choose not to appoint any candidate who applies to a posted vacancy. All offers of employment to Sessional Lecturers are conditional upon sufficient student enrolment in the Course. For the purposes of this Article, Internal Applicant means a Sessional Lecturer who has taught any Course for the University within the past thirty-six (36) months. If there are multiple sections of a Course, the ▇▇▇▇ will determine the number of sections to be assigned to a qualified applicant. 12.01 Internal Posting and Appointment a) Prior to posting under 12.02 the University shall post a position restricted to Internal Applicants. Normally positions will be posted no less than 20 Days prior to the start of the Course. The internal posting shall be posted on the University’s employment website for a minimum of five (5) Days. b) The qualifications of the applicants will be evaluated against the posted qualifications for the position(s). The criteria for selecting a candidate for a position shall include the Internal Applicant’s academic qualifications, teaching competence, ability to perform the duties of the position, and previous applicable academic experience. Criteria are not listed in order of importance. c) The ▇▇▇▇ shall determine the process for the selection of the successful candidate. This selection process may include interviews, teaching demonstrations, and/or other assessments as determined by the ▇▇▇▇. d) Questions about the posting and/or appointment should be directed to the Planning and Budget Officer of the posting Faculty. Priority will be given to an Internal Applicant who has taught any Course for the University in three (3) different Sessions in the past thirty-six (36) months, provided they meet the requirements for the position as outlined in the job posting. Where two (2) or more Internal Applicants with priority status meet the requirements of the position(s) the University may choose the best qualified candidate. 12.02 External Posting and Appointment Process Should a posting not be filled by the internal posting process: a) Notices of Sessional Lecturer vacancies shall be posted on the University’s employment website for at least ten (10) Days. Postings and Appointments. ‌ 13.01 The parties acknowledge that Employee candidates come to the attention of and are selected by Employment Supervisors through a number of different methods, including direct communication with a candidate(s) and/or with colleagues. 13.02 Except where a candidate is hired under Article 13.01, the Employer agrees that positions shall be posted for a period of not less than seven (7) days. Such positions will be posted on the University Careers website. No offer of employment shall be made until the posting period of seven (7) days has elapsed. 13.03 A posting under Article 13.02 will identify the following: job title, description of the area or topic of research, remuneration, supervision and academic unit, date of posting and application deadline, start date and duration of the appointment, required qualifications, the application procedure, required documentation (e.g., CV, references, publications, etc.) and any employment diversity or equity statement. 13.04 Appointments are normally for periods of twelve (12) months or greater. However, the Employer shall not use a series of short-term appointments for the purpose of circumventing the hiring of a single Employee for a period of more than twelve (12) months where supervisors have funding in place for a longer term. The parties acknowledge that there may be specific circumstances when short-term appointments of less than twelve (12) months may be appropriate. 13.05 All successful candidates shall receive a letter of offer, signed by the Employer and Supervisor, which shall include, at a minimum, the following information: start date of contract, end date of contract, salary, name of Supervisor, campus location, and general outline of duties. The Letter shall also include a link to the Collective Agreement and a link to an onboarding site for new employees. The Union shall be provided with a list of all appointments on a monthly basis, which shall include each employee’s start and ends dates of contract, salary, and name of Supervisor. 13.06 The Employer is committed to maintaining an appointment and re- appointment process that clearly communicates timelines. Faculty Supervisors shall provide a minimum of one (1) month notice to an employee on their intention to renew an appointment.

Postings and Appointments. 16.01 The parties acknowledge that PDF candidates come to the attention of Primary Investigators/Researchers through a number of appropriate avenues, including direct communication with a candidate(s) and/or with colleagues. The Employer agrees to fill all bargaining unit positions according to the provisions of this Article, except those funded exclusively by grants awarded to individual postdoctoral fellows by external granting agencies and in instances in which an appointment is arranged as a result of the employment supervisor having been contacted directly by a candidate(s) and/or colleague(s). When an opportunity is posted, it will remain open for a period of not less than 10 business days, and no offer of appointment will be made until after the posting has closed. 16.02 A posted opportunity will, in addition to reasonable locations of the Employer’s choosing, be posted on the relevant CUPE 3906 departmental bulletin board(s) and an electronic copy of the posting will be provided to the Union. 16.03 A posting will identify the following: job title, description of the area or topic of research, required teaching if any, remuneration, supervisor and academic unit, union local and bargaining unit, date of posting and application deadline, start date and duration of the appointment, required qualifications, restrictions (if applicable), the application procedure, required documentation (e.g., C.V., references, publications, etc.), and the employment equity statement set forth in 16.04 below.
